In South Cambs there are Village Colleges across the district that offer adult learning and education courses on a huge range of topics. Aligning with the school calendar, many courses start in September each year - some are held in the evening and some are at weekends.
This activity is good for wellbeing because
- learning a new skill is good for the brain;
- you’ll get to meet other people who live in your local area;
- it’s a boost to have something to look forward to every week.
“I did a screen printing workshop and not only did I learn about this absorbing craft, I also made some lovely (and utterly unique) tote bags to give to friends and family. I had such a sense of achievement at the end!”

What to expect
The village college concept is unique to Cambridgeshire – established by Henry Morris in the 1930s to cater for the education of 11-16 year olds during the day, whilst providing learning and leisure to the wider community out of school hours.
Courses include physical activities/sports; language learning; arts and crafts; functional skills in maths & English and lots more besides. There really is something for everyone! Courses follow the school year with many courses starting at the beginning of the school term in September. Some are at held in the evenings and some (mostly short courses or workshops) are at weekends.
Links below (underlined) will take you to each village college’s adult education information where you can make further enquiries or book. Timetables/prospectuses are also available to download.
More information
Pre-booking is essential as some courses are popular and fill up quickly. Booking/enquiries tend to be only available during school hours in term-time.
Some courses are free if you meet eligibility criteria – contact the Adult Education team at the Village College to find out more.
Most courses require payment in advance to secure your booking.
