Bourn Pottery is open for courses, lessons, taster sessions and other fun activities using clay. Whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced potter, there is something for all ages and abilities.
This activity is good for wellbeing because
- clay is a very forgiving material - if you don't like what you are making you can always start again and experimentation is encouraged;
- learning a new skill is good for the brain - and learning as part of a group is very sociable;
- working with clay can be meditative and relaxing.
"Thanks for looking after us so well on the day and for your patient and humorous approach to teaching - we all had a great laugh. Thanks also for preparing the pottery for collection - we are all thrilled with the results." Will, who attended a taster session

What to expect
Bourn Pottery was founded by Sara, who loves sharing her passion for pottery with people. The Bourn Pottery studio can accommodate up to six people for group lessons, courses and sessions. There are a range of courses to suit all ages and abilities - find out more on this link. Depending on the course you book, you can either make things by hand or try throwing pots on a wheel.
Sara's encouraging and supportive manner means that everyone is put at ease - she has a friendly and relaxed attitude that makes learning enjoyable and everyone makes something they can be proud of. On arrival you will be seated around a large table and shown what to do. The item(s) that you make will be fired by Sara in the kiln and can be collected at a later date.
If you are feeling anxious, Sara is happy for you to arrive early and get settled before other people arrive - just let her know in advance so she can be there to greet you. If you are part of a group session, Sara can introduce you to other members of the group if you don't feel like speaking.
More information
All equipment and materials are provided, but bring a water bottle to stay hydrated (it's thirsty work!). If you are attending for a full day, bring a packed lunch. Wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty (or bring an apron).
The studio and equipment is wheelchair accessible and there is a toilet which is accessible for most users that have some mobility. If you have mobility or access needs, you can contact Sara to discuss them ahead of booking your course/session.
Well behaved dogs are welcome to come along by arrangement.
There is free parking on the driveway.
Sara also offers sessions outside the studio and has shown people how to make things with clay in care homes, hospices and workplaces. She can also create bespoke pieces on commission and there are items for sale in the studio.
Details of how much sessions cost are on the website.
