Chatty Cafés

Back to Activities

The Chatty Café Scheme tackles loneliness through a network of 'Chatter & Natter' tables hosted by volunteers in venues in Bassingbourn, Papworth, Royston & Trumpington. There are also online Chatty Café sessions.

This activity is good for wellbeing because

  • it’s good to talk and meet other people – in person or online;
  • you can join in with the chat or just listen – Chatter & Natter tables are a friendly and supportive place to be on good days and bad;
  • you could consider becoming a ‘Chatter & Natter’ volunteer and host a table in a venue in your area.

“It was so nice to meet Dan and the other Chatty Café regulars – we talked about all sorts and it felt very relaxed and friendly.”

What to expect

Chatter & Natter tables are where people can sit if they are happy to talk to other people. Hundreds of venues offer Chatter & Natter tables, in cafes, pubs, libraries, hospitals – anywhere that people can sit and chat over a coffee.

Bassingbourn
Held every Thursday from 2-4pm in the United Reform Church. Contact the organiser and find out more here.

Papworth
Held every Tuesday from 9.30am – 10.30am in the Courtyard Coffee Shop and Micropub in Papworth, the Chatter & Natter table is hosted by Dan, a local resident and volunteer. If you fancy a chat, head to the table with the yellow ‘Chat & Natter’ sign and Dan will be there to meet you. There’s a wide range of drinks and snacks for sale or you could even order breakfast but there’s no expectation you have to buy something if all you’d like is a chat. Find out more about the Courtyard Coffee Shop on this link.

Royston
Held every Monday from 12noon to 1.30pm in Kooky Nohmad – a workspace coffee house that is open to everyone. Contact the organiser and find out more here.

Trumpington
Held every Monday from 10am – 11.30am in the Waitrose Café in Trumpington, the Chat & Natter table is hosted by Hazel, a friendly volunteer. If you fancy a chat, head to the table with the yellow ‘Chat & Natter’ sign and Hazel will be there to meet you. There’s a wide range of drinks and snacks for sale or you could even order breakfast but there’s no expectation you have to buy something if all you’d like is a chat.
