Contemporary Youth Choir (CYC) is a fully accessible and inclusive choir for those aged 11 – 25, led by an experienced singer-songwriter. There is no audition process and no need for any previous vocal experience. Everyone is welcome.
This activity is good for wellbeing because
- it offers a safe space to express yourself, connect with others and be heard;
- singing can reduce stress and release endorphins which make you feel good;
- learning and performing new songs can help build your self-confidence.
“It’s exceeded any of my expectations. The confidence in my daughter has improved, her voice is very much heard now!’ – Parent of CYC participant

What to expect
Contemporary Youth Choir (CYC) meets at Cambridge Junction from 6-7pm on Tuesday evenings. The aim of the group is to enjoy singing with others – you don’t need to have any previous singing experience at all.
The choir is led by Yvonne Hercules, a singer-songwriter who is experienced in community engagement. As a member of the choir you will help to decide the content and creative direction of the group, including helping to choose the songs that you sing. The group usually sing a mixture of pop, rock and soul.
There are opportunities to perform to family, friends and the wider community. But there is no pressure to perform if you would prefer not to.
