An orchestra for adults who can read music and play an orchestral instrument but may be a little rusty - no pressure to work towards a public performance and the aim is progress not perfection! Based at Cambridgeshire Music's headquarters in Histon.
This activity is good for wellbeing because
- making music in a group has been proven to be a great stress-buster;
- learning keeps your brain active;
- the orchestra is friendly and supportive and every session has a break for refreshments and chat so it is a good way to meet other people.
"It's really uplifting to do something in a group where it feels like the total is greater than the sum of the parts, and there is something very satisfying about playing a small part in something collective, the way that it really forces you to tune into and listen to those around you, as well as the shared sense of accomplishment when it actually sounds pretty good!" Kaili - a Dust It Off Orchestra member

What to expect
Meeting every two weeks in term-time, Dust It Off Orchestra plays a variety of music conducted by the founder, Nigel Bennett. It is aimed at people who have played orchestral instruments to a reasonable standard previously but who may be out of practice or haven't played in a group for a while.
Nigel is keen for everyone to grow in confidence each week. He never singles out individual musicians for feedback or comment, and the Orchestra is friendly and supportive.
The same music, from classical favourites to popular hits, is played across six sessions each term so that musicians can learn the repertoire and improve each time. The Orchestra doesn't work towards a public performance, it is just about the joy of playing together.
More information
Requirements are that musicians can read music and bring their own orchestral instrument.
Sessions last from 10.30-12.30pm with a break for refreshments (which are provided) and chat.
If you would like to attend a session, send Nigel an email and he’ll reply with an information pack and dates (see contact info for details). Starting at the beginning of a term means you'll be learning the music at the same time as the other musicians.
Sessions are on a ‘pay & play’ basis and cost £5 cash or card.
