Gentle Movements sessions guide you through a series of subtle, soothing and flowing exercises which will help you move more easily, encourage you to listen to your body and invite a sense of joy and stillness. Offered online and in person in Cambridge and Great Shelford.
This activity is good for wellbeing because
- it is both deeply relaxing and invigorating;
- it can create a loving and nurturing relationship with your body;
- focusing on movements and the breath can help you to feel calmer.
“At the end of the session my body (and spirit) feel wonderfully relaxed and ready to face whatever life throws at me. It is much gentler, more thoughtful, almost contemplative, than other movement practices and I like the combination of different approaches such as qigong, Feldenkrais and yoga.”

What to expect?
Gentle Movements are subtle and flowing exercises drawn on a range of movement practices including Qigong, Feldenkrais, yoga and dance. If you experience aches and pains or lead a stressful life, Gentle Movements may help you move a little more easily, invigorate you and help you to listen to your body.
Moniek runs group Gentle Movements sessions weekly during term time, both in-person and online. The in-person sessions are held at the Friends Meeting House on Hartington Grove in Cambridge and one-to-one in Great Shelford. Visit the Gentle Movements website for details and timings.
The groups are small and the atmosphere is relaxed. Each session starts with a body scan to shift your attention away from daily hassles and worries towards the needs of your body. Moniek will then guide you through subtle exercises to help you move more easily and make your body feel better. The sessions generally start with floor based explorations and relaxation, and finish with more active, standing exercises that will leave you feeling energised. If any of the movements do not feel comfortable, you will be supported to adapt them, or encouraged to leave them out.
More information
For the in-person sessions you are advised to wear comfortable warm clothing with socks and bring a mat or blanket and cushion to lie on. For the online sessions you are advised to make sure you have a soft warm place to lie down, on the floor or on a bed, and a chair to sit on.
People who are new to the group sessions can do a free trial session, in person or online. Contact Moniek for more information.
The sessions are subject to a fee. You can choose to pay per session on a drop-in rate, or pay a reduced termly fee. There is a reduced rate for low income earners. For more information visit the Gentle Movement website.
