Harp for Wellbeing with Peaceful Strings

Back to Activities

Julia is a certified harp therapist who runs 'Peaceful Strings', offering live online one-to-one and group relaxation sessions as well as harp lessons. She also plays in person in health and care settings such as hospices, day care centres and care homes.

This activity is good for wellbeing because

  • the gentle, resonant sound of harp music is particularly soothing and relaxing;
  • guided meditation using harp music can help you connect with feelings and memories that may be difficult to access in other ways;
  • guided meditation and relaxation sessions are online so you don't need to leave your home.

"Our groups have been working with Julia for some time and absolutely love the harp therapy. Everyone gets the opportunity to learn and listen to something new and everyone is focussed. This allows people the chance to reminisce over old favourite songs and even experience the melodic sounds made from plucking strings on a harp themselves. Time is taken to see that people get the chance to try playing a new instrument and this brings great joy to both the person living with memory loss and their carer." What to expect

Julia is a certified harp therapist and specialises in harp for meditation, relaxation and wellbeing. In live online one-to-one or group relaxation sessions, the music is much simpler than in a traditional concert, and is designed to take the listener through different stages of relaxation, holding them in a ‘cradle of sound’.

As an introduction to Julia's music she offers live online 'Drift Away' sessions on Fridays every two weeks for 30 minutes bookable via EventBrite. Cameras are switched off and you can relax and let the music transport you somewhere calm and peaceful.

Julia also offers harp lessons - details are on her website.
