Histon & Impington Green Spaces

Back to Activities

Histon & Impington Green Spaces own and manage two local nature reserves for the benefit of the local community, organising events and activities that promote conservation and biodiversity whilst enabling people to enjoy being in nature.

This activity is good for wellbeing because

  • being outdoors in green spaces is a proven stress-buster;
  • attending events, activities and talks encourages people to learn about and appreciate the natural habitats on our doorstep;
  • if you can spare the time, volunteering (either working on a conservation project outdoors or in helping to run Histon & Impington Green Spaces) is a great way to meet local people and feel good 'putting something back'.

What to expect

Histon & Impington Green Spaces own and manage two green spaces for the benefit of the local community - Long Meadow and Croft Close Nature Reserve:

  • Long Meadow is a large green meadow off Park Lane with a brook to one side and a wooded area, surrounded by farmland.
  • Croft Close Nature Reserve is wilder with fewer footpaths and with more wooded areas to explore.

Both sites are lovely for a stroll, a dog walk or to take time to quietly observe the birds, insects and plants. There's information about what to look out for on this link.

In addition, Histon & Impington Green Spaces organise events and activities to encourage people to get to know and appreciate the local environment - from guided nature walks to photography competitions. Find out more on this link.

Histon & Impington Green Spaces also facilitates volunteering - from helping out with conservation projects to helping to run the organisation (including fundraising!). Find out more on this link.

More information

To see how to access the sites, take a look at the videos above.

Neither site has on-site parking; if possible, you are encouraged to arrive by bike or on foot.

Neither site has dog poo bins, so please pick up after your dog and find a dog poo bin elsewhere (they aren't far).

The terrain can vary depending on the season and weather; wear appropriate clothing and footwear (Croft Close Nature Reserve can get muddy). If you have limited mobility, you may want to attend a 'walking stick guided walk' - see link for details.

Visiting the sites and attending events and activities is free, however donations are welcome.
