Mental Health Mates Cambridge and Royston

Back to Activities

Mental Health Mates volunteers organise friendly walking groups that meet once a month in Cambridge and in Royston. These walks provide a time to talk about mental health challenges without fear of judgement, whether you have a diagnosed mental illness or not.

This activity is good for wellbeing because

  • going for a walk can help clear your mind and give you an energy boost;
  • connecting with other people who have had similar experiences can make you feel less isolated;
  • spending time in nature has been found to reduce stress and improve mood.

What to expect

Mental Health Mates Walk and Talk groups meet on a Sunday morning once a month. You don’t need to book a place on the walk, just come along! Walks last for around an hour. In that time you can talk to members of the group, share with them or simply walk beside them. There is no pressure to do anything, you can participate in whichever way feels best for you on that day. The group meets whatever the weather. Make sure to check the weather forecast to make sure you wear appropriate footwear and outer clothing.

In Cambridge you can find details of the next walk on the Mental Health Mates Cambridge Facebook page. If you would like to get in touch with the leaders beforehand you can email Paul on [email protected] or contact Richard via the Facebook page.

In Royston you can email walk leader Dan for more information on [email protected] The walk starts from the café on Therfield Heath, Royston.
