Open Water Swimming

Back to Activities

Also known as wild swimming, open water swimming has grown in popularity due to how exhilarating it can be to swim in the sea, lakes, ponds or rivers. It is safest to try open water swimming as part of a supervised group and only if you are a confident swimmer.

This activity is good for wellbeing because

  • open water swimming has both mental and physical health benefits;
  • being outside and in or near water is energising;
  • meeting people with similar interests can lead to new friendships.

There are a number of places you can try open water swimming in South Cambs, but a good place to start is with an organised group:

Milton Country Park

Bookable sessions are available for open water swimming at Milton Country Park – open water swimming is not permitted at other times. These sessions are open to adults over the age of 18 and juniors (by arrangement).

To find out more, check when sessions are running and book a session visit the Milton Country Park website.

For aspiring open water swimmers who would like more support & instruction, there are small group coaching sessions – for more info check here.
