Read Easy Cambridge

Back to Activities

Read Easy Cambridge offers free one-to-one sessions in Cambridge City, Cambourne and surrounding villages for adults who want to develop their reading skills.

This activity is good for wellbeing because

  • developing your reading skills can give a sense of accomplishment and build confidence and self esteem;
  • learning to read can help with the day-to-day navigation of life;
  • reading can create opportunities and have long-lasting benefits for families.

"I feel like a different person. I went off and joined the library by myself and signed the kids up at the same time. I got a job, and I have to write daily reports on my work. Mindblowing. I felt like I was stuck in my own bubble before, now all the doors are wide open for me. I’m reading with the kids, I’m helping with their homework. I actually read books and magazines for pleasure. I even have to read stuff out loud at work and I’m fine with that." Karen, Read Easy Cambridge Reader

Learn to Read

If you are interested in learning how to read, or improving your reading, contact Juliet Gibbs on 0300 365 0052 or [email protected]. You will be invited to have a chat with a Co-ordinator to give you more information, assess your current reading skills and match you with the right Coach.

Reading sessions take place twice a week for half an hour at a local venue to suit the Reader and Coach. Remote learning may also be possible. All sessions are completely free and are delivered by trained volunteers. All materials are provided.
