Swavesey Camera Club

Back to Activities

A sociable & supportive club held at Swavesey Village College with a focus on improving photography skills, whatever your starting point & whatever style or subject matter interests you. With competitions, talks, outings & socials there’s lots going on throughout the year.

This activity is good for wellbeing because

  • photography allows you to unleash your creativity and is an accessible medium – even if all you have is a smart phone camera, you can get started;
  • learning new skills is good for the brain – constructive feedback on your work will improve your ability as a photographer;  there is a workshop each year and you might get the chance to join a more experienced photographer who can show you tricks, tips and techniques;
  • this friendly and inclusive club welcomes photographers of all levels of skill, ability and experience.

“At the heart of the club is an overall spirit of friendliness and fun, and I hope this helps you to enjoy your photography!” Simon Shore, President of Swavesey Camera Club

What to expect

Meeting online via Zoom and in person at Swavesey Village College, Swavesey Camera Club welcomes photographers of all ages and abilities (junior members under age 16 must be accompanied by an adult). A varied programme of talks, competitions, exhibitions, outings and social events means that there is something for everyone. To take a look at the Club’s programme, click on this link.

Competitions within the Club and against other clubs allow members to gain invaluable feedback, work with more experienced photographers and see how their photographs measure up against others. There’s no pressure to take part if you don’t want to – in fact, new club members who are complete beginners may want to observe the process and see the standard of photography before submitting. Photos are submitted via PhotoEntry – your log in user name and password will be given to you when you join the Club as a member.

The Club’s annual exhibition, which is free to attend, is held in Swavesey Memorial Hall – check out the website for dates and details.
