What to expect
Participation is informal and generally coordinated every week through a WhatsApp ‘Rides’ group, though sometimes planned rides may change on the day depending on wind/weather/road conditions and ride leader availability. A variety of distances and destinations are offered for all abilities – rides are led by experienced ride leaders and are split into slower or faster groups depending on who wants to take part. Less confident cyclists are supported and will not be ‘dropped’ on a ride or left behind, and all of the rides regroup periodically to ensure everyone is OK.
Typical ride times are 2-3 hours depending on weather and routes. Thursday evening rides include a refreshment stop, Sunday rides may include a coffee stop (refreshments at your own expense).
You’ll need a road-worthy bike and helmet, plus weather-appropriate clothing (and bike lights depending on light and weather conditions). Routes don’t always include convenient places to stop for the toilet, and you may want to bring water and a snack.
Young people under 16 can participate if accompanied by a parent or guardian.
If you’d like to join a ride, contact the club via the Facebook page (click icon for link).
There is a £10 annual membership fee payable in March/April each year.
New riders are welcome to join rides for free before signing up to be members.
