What to expect
Young people come to New Meaning Foundation as an alternative to mainstream education. It provides educational placements for 14-25 year olds with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), helping to engage them in education through innovative, flexible, and practical lessons. Young people are taught maths and English functional skills and construction skills.
New Meaning Foundation is a judgement-free environment that works with young people by meeting them where they are at and building an education plan that is centred around them. Learners thrive in this understanding, non-judgemental environment. Compared to time in mainstream education, learners demonstrate increased attendance, increased engagement, increased attainment of qualifications, and decreased behavioural challenges.
Focused on practical education, New Meaning Foundation builds pathways into sustained careers. This is achieved by teaching 'Preparing for Adulthood', which builds confidence, resilience, and problem solving; delivering practical, hands-on teaching; offering opportunities for short-term work experience; and running an internal employment scheme, so young people can gain paid employment within the organisation..
