Shine provides free specialist support from before birth and throughout the life of anyone living with spina bifida and /or hydrocephalus, as well as to parents, families, carers and professional care staff. Shine enables people to get the best out of life.

What to expect: 

Shine plays a leading role in providing specialist support pre-birth and beyond for anyone living with spina bifida, hydrocephalus, and associated conditions. They also advise and support parents, families, carers and professional health, and social care staff.

Their national work includes:

  • support and development through information and advice
  • early intervention support for children age 0-17 and their families
  • advice around keeping healthy
  • support with children’s education
  • support with disability benefits advice

If you need to contact one of Shine’s Specialist Advisors you can do this via phone or email. Once you register with Shine and become a member, you will receive a welcome pack in the post and a welcome call from a named Support and Development Worker.

Shine is a national registered charity based in Peterborough, which was formed in 1966, initially to help families and individuals affected by spina bifida and hydrocephalus. It aims to create a society where all those whose lives are affected by spina bifida and / or hydrocephalus, and associated conditions, are empowered and enabled through choice and equality of opportunity.

All their specialist support services and resources are free of charge to their members, including professional members.
