Northstowe Chess Club

Back to Activities

Chess is an enjoyable and stimulating rule-based board game for two people, played for centuries as a way of learning about strategy. Northstowe Chess Club is a friendly group that meets every week, welcoming both experienced players and beginners.

This activity is good for wellbeing because

  • learning a new skill is rewarding;
  • you’ll meet like-minded people and may make friends;
  • focusing on a game is a great way of escaping from everyday worries and distractions.

What to expect

Run at the same time as Northstowe’s Community Lounge (Thursday evenings 6-8pm), Northstowe Chess Club has been founded to help all ages discover this fascinating board game.

You don’t need to have played chess before (beginners can be taught the basics) and you don’t even need a partner – there are solo players you can have a game with. Ten boards are available.

Before you attend for the first time, email Ioana who runs the group (see contact info) to let her know to expect you.
