Walking Football for People with Parkinson’s

Back to Activities

Walking Football is a game of skill, not pace or strength. These sessions are specifically for men and women living with Parkinson's disease or any other condition that affects mobility. In Histon & Impington, Sawston & Royston.

This activity is good for wellbeing because

  • there is proven link between exercise and improved quality of life;
  • it is a group activity and a great way to meet new people;
  • players frequently comment on the importance of the community and friendships that result from taking part.

“It has been great just to kick a ball about again, quite apart from helping me to get fitter than I’ve been for decades.” John, 69

What to expect

Suitable for anyone with Parkinson’s disease or any other condition that affects mobility. You don’t have to be fit or have played football before to take part, though you are advised to take it easy to start with until your fitness levels improve. Sessions are supportive and welcoming and everyone can have a go – if you can walk, you can play!

Contact the session organiser to make sure there are spaces and to check about appropriate clothing and footwear (trainers might not be suitable for some surfaces).

The information below may be subject to change – please check before you turn up for a game.
