Understanding Grief - ARHC

Back to Support

An online and in-person support group (meeting near Shelford, just outside Cambridge) for adults who have been recently bereaved. Hosted by Arthur Rank Hospice Charity (ARHC) but you don't need a prior connection to the Hospice to attend.

What to expect

Understanding Grief sessions are for adults who have experienced a bereavement, are in the early stages of grief, and would like to understand more about the grieving process. No prior connection to Arthur Rank Hospice Charity is needed.

In-person and online sessions are relaxed and informal, including a presentation on a relevant topic and time to connect with others who may be going through similar experiences. Sessions are facilitated by the Patient and Family Support Team at the Hospice.

Whilst the session is aimed at adults, there is some information about how to support children and young people who are grieving.

Booking is essential, as spaces are limited - for dates/times and to book either call 01223 675777 or use this link.

"I just wanted to say thank you for the support the Group has been able to give. It has been a part of the healing process after their death, and I can say things are much better now than a year ago."

More information

Understanding Grief sessions alternate between being online and being in-person at the Hospice. If you come to an in-person session let reception know and there will be people available to greet you and take you to the right room. Drinks and biscuits are provided. There will not be more than 20 participants and usually there will be two people facilitating the session.

If you are attending an in-person session, please park at the Babraham Road Park and Ride car park next door to the hospice which is free for up to 18 hours and very close to the Hospice. The Hospice is wheelchair accessible with disabled toilets.

If it has been more than eight weeks since your loved one died and you are finding that your grief is having a significant impact on your daily life, you can self-refer for bereavement support from ARHC's Patient and Family Support Team.  They will offer you an initial assessment within 12 weeks of self-referral.

There is more information and resources about grief and bereavement on the ARHC website.

These services are free.
